Greg Cybulski (February 20, 2016) Well race fans, the 2016 dirt track racing schedules have been released in the green province of Saskatchewan. By all accounts, this season is promising to be as action-packed as any in recent memory.
Swift Current's Speedy Creek Raceway will tentatively host 10 nights of racing, including 3 doubleheader weekends on June 17 & 18, July 15 & 16 and finally September 9 & 10. What makes this season different from previous years at the Southwest Saskatchewan IMCA-sanctioned bullring is 4 consistent racing classes every single night. IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Thunder Trucks will entertain dirt track racing fans all season long. Confirmation of the scheduled dates are awaiting final approval.
To the Southeast, Estevan Motor Speedway has an absolutely loaded program for the 2016 season including some very exciting racing tour groups that will thrill the dirt track faithful.
To start, Estevan has introduced the Slingshot, a new car class aimed at getting the youngsters and their families interested and involved in dirt track racing. If there is to be a new generation of racers coming up, this new class is a great way to get them started.
EMS already hosts regular IMCA classes of Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks on their consistently smooth, fast and very racy 3/8 mile high-banked dirt oval. Add some very special events and you have a full house of entertainment. The list reads as follows;
Saturday, June 11, IMCA Hobby Stock Shootout
Friday, June 24, Western North Dakota Sprint Car Tour
Monday, July 11, IMCA Dakota Classic Modified Tour
Saturday, July 23, Northern Thunder Late Models Tour
Sunday, July 24, Northern Thunder Late Models Tour
Both Speedy Creek Raceway and Estevan Motor Speedway start up on Saturday, May 7 with Test and Tunes for all classes.
