CARLSON CHECKS OUT, DOMINATES NLSA FEATURE
Greg Cybulski, WINNIPEG, MB (August 8, 2010) Jennifer Carlson had been waiting a long time for her chance for redemption. On June 3rd Carlson let victory, from the pole position, slip away as lapped traffic would relegate her to a second place finish behind Dave Sobczak.
The rain-shortened Northern Lightning Sprint Association season had left her and the other members frustrated as races were coming only a month apart.
Two months later, Carlson's #6 Lightning Sprint was starting on the front row of the 12-lap feature again. This time, her fortunes would turn for the better.
Following intermission, the NLSA Lightning Sprints lined up for their feature.
What the field of cars was about to race on was a freshly watered track which left some of the teams with difficulties negotiating the track's surface.
From the drop of the green flag, Jennifer Carlson led the field of cars into the first turn and she never looked back. Rookie Ryan Harms and Tyson Hiebert lead the chase after Carlson, but to no avail, as she steadily increased her lead throughout the caution-free feature until the checkered flag waved.
Rounding up the top five was Jennifer Carlson, Ryan Harms, Tyson Hiebert, Chris Bouwman and Dave Sobczak.
In earlier action, NLSA heat races were won by Dave Sobczak and Chris Sorin
2009 NLSA points champion and current points leader Roland Bernard is feeling the heat from Amber Balcaen. The pilot of the Balcaen Racing #10 Lightning Sprint is staying right with the champion in a very tight battle for the 2010 NLSA points race, which will likely come down to the final race of the season.
