May Season Openers And Manitoba Open Wheel News

The month of May started out with a lot of rain, delaying the Season Openers of many tracks across Western Canada and along the Canadian - US border.  Fortunately the month ended on a better note for some, especially for two Manitoba-based open wheel racers.

Fannystelle's Eric Guyot entered his rookie season with the Western Renegade Non-Wing Sprint Car Series with a strong run at Devil's Lake Speedway on Saturday, May 28th.  Starting in 7th, Guyot worked his way up to a 2nd place finish in the 25 lap feature.  This also earned him the hard-charger of the evening. 

Eric Guyot is no stranger to open wheel racing as he was part of the Northern Lightning Sprint Association during the organization's five year run at Manitoba dirt tracks from 2009 to 2013.

THOMAS KENNEDY

It didn't take Winnipeg's Thomas Kennedy long to find his groove back in a sprint car after the reopening of the border following the COVID pandemic. Kennedy made a triumphant return to Grand Forks, North Dakota's River Cities Speedway on Friday night, winning the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association feature.

The next night, Thomas raced in Iowa at the legendary half-mile, Knoxville Raceway, 410 sprint car division where he finished a respectable 14th in a very competitive field of cars.  He then followed that up with a trip to Brandon, South Dakota's Huset's Speedway for a 2-night run with the NOSA sprints.

Thomas finished an impressive 4th out of 28 sprint cars in the Sunday A-Main.  

Unfortunately stormy weather forced the cancellation of the Monday night program.
